Promotional Products For Grocery Stores posted by on July 11, 2011

One of the best ways to market a grocery store is to use promotional products. Like many retail operations, grocery stores rely not only on repeat customers to stay in business, but also the active acquisition of new customers. This ongoing process can become quite costly, especially with increasing competition and operational costs in the grocery industry. However, when compared to the cost of television, radio and print advertising, promotional items are extremely cost effective and offer the most ROI for a store’s advertising budget.

A grocery store has the opportunity to use many different items as promotional products because of the nature of the business. For example, a tote bag is a great promotional item that can be used to advertise a grocery store. Every customer needs a bag to place their items in after shopping. Because bags have a large surface area, not only can the name and logo of the store be placed on the bag, but other pertinent information such as the store hours and special policies as well.

Since tote bags are reusable, customers are likely to use them when they shop in other stores. This amounts to free advertising for the store, because the store’s name is being seen by people who may not otherwise find out about the store. Tote bags are also a good way to promote a store’s commitment to good environmental practices, because the bags are reusable. If enough customers use the bags it also makes an impact on the store’s bottom line because the number of plastic and paper bags that must be purchased can be reduced.

Some other examples of promotional items that a grocery store can use are: t-shirts, key chains, calendars, pens, coffee mugs, can openers, coupon holders and stickers. Some items like a calendar or bottle opener can actually remind customers they need to go to the grocery store to pick up some items, while other items such as a coupon holder can help to facilitate the process of shopping.

Holding contests or sampling fairs is a good way to drive traffic into the store and an opportunity to give away promotional items to customers. The contests and/or fairs can be one day or ongoing, as long as customers are able to leave the store with promotional items. Promotional items should also be given to employees, vendors and people who work in a similar, but not competing industry, such as the restaurant industry. Every opportunity to give away a promotional product is an opportunity to acquire free advertising and build brand loyalty.
